ART BIO

James Hornsby is a Brisbane based contemporary artist working primarily with photography and video. He is known for his installations and photographic compositions that conflate pop-culture references and explore the impact of digital media on human consciousness and life.

Beginning as a music press and action sports photographer, Hornsby applies photography as a vehicle for collaboration. Exploring subcultures, identity and community, with a focus on story telling and highlighting unique individuals.

Hornsby combines his own photographs, collected materials, expressive mark making and unique post production techniques to construct  layered visual narratives.

Working fluidly across a variety of mediums, Hornsby’s neo expressionist style has lent itself to; music festivals, album artworks, clothing collections, public art activations and live performance.

His work has been exhibited across Australia and internationally in art galleries and cultural festivals including, The Queensland Museum, Adelaide Festival Centre, BIGSOUND, Onespace Gallery and The Chambers Project in California.

Beyond gallery walls, Hornsby has collaborated with prominent brands and platforms, including Universal Music, Rage TV, W Hotels, Vans, Doom Juice and Vogue magazine.

Hornsby’s largest and most loved project is his clothing line Chronic Bone, blending art and streetwear with a philosophy of self-validation.
